There’s a convicted sex offender by the name of Joseph Gobrick who says that he identifies as an 8-year-old girl. As if that wasn’t bad enough, it was also found that he has child pornography on his computer.
The man believes that he is protected under the First Amendment right to have the ability to watch the porn. He says that even with his drawings and fantasies that he’s always been an 8-year-old girl. It’s absolutely disgusting and the judge isn’t okay with any of his responses. In fact, none of what the man has said inside of the courtroom sits well with the judge, the prosecutor, or anyone else that hears what he has to say.
The 45-year-old sex offender is claiming that the pornographic images were computer-animated using a program that manipulates images. Therefore, he believes that it is all protected under the First Amendment. However, police have identified eight child victims from the pornography recovered from the man’s computer. The most appalling part is that some of the images were of children between infancy and five years old being sexually assaulted.
This isn’t the first time that Gobrick has had to see the inside of a courtroom over his sexual tendencies. He was arrested in 2018 after a 17-year-old girl in Ohio that was identified as being endangered/missing was found inside of his home in Grand Rapids. During that investigation, child pornography was located on his computer as well.
He was also convicted of sexual abuse in 2001 in the state of New York. However, he continues to insist in the courtroom that he’s not sexually attracted to children. He told the judge that he would no sooner have sex with a child than the judge would with a rattlesnake, siting that it’s “just not safe.” What he meant by safe, however, was anyone’s guess. It was more likely about his personal safety than that of the child.
Daniel Helmer, the Assistant Prosecutor for Kent County said that Gobrick is a danger to the public. Throughout the trial, the man talked about raping babies in the Kent County Jail, drawing inappropriate pictures, and going about how the constitution gave him rights to do so.
Gobrick was found guilty by the Kent County Circuit Court on three counts of child sexually abusive commercial activity including using a computer to commit the crime. He was to be sentenced to between 10 and 20 years in prison.
The worst part is that the judge says that Gobrick has actually bragged about what he has done and does not believe that child sexually abusive material is wrong in any way. He said that it isn’t virtual – real people are being harmed in order to keep this man entertained.
Gobrick is clearly not playing with a full deck. He chose to fire his court-appointed attorney and represent himself. He maintained that he was innocent all throughout the bench trial. He even went as far as challenging the legality of the prosecution during his sentencing. At one point, he even went as far as referencing Auschwitz to say that it was legal under the law but what the court is doing with him is wrong.
Gobrick was unable to clearly identify why he thought that the First Amendment rights were there to protect him in order to watch child pornography and child sexual abuse videos. Further, he said that he identified as an eight-year-old girl and that is what made him watch all of the videos. However, that’s not the kind of content that eight-year-old girls are watching online. No one in their sane mind would be attracted to that kind of content – and when the sex offender brags about raping babies, it’s clear that he doesn’t believe that he’s in the wrong for what he does or what his thoughts are.
Luckily, Gobrick will be locked away, far away from the internet as well as any children for the foreseeable future. The problem is that child pornography remains online – and as long as there are people like Gobrick watching it, there are people who will continue to abduct and abuse young children in order to watch it. It’s a disgusting practice and there are real children being sexually abused for the entertainment of those with sick and twisted minds. While there are a lot of law enforcement agencies around the globe that are cracking down on child porn sites, there are still people such as Gobrick who feel as though they’re entitled to such activities.
