With the threat of impeachment lessoning every day, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her fellow Democrats know they have to try something else. They have to focus their efforts on gaining control in another way.
At present, it is unclear that they have decided what that move will be. However, what is clear is that they are preparing for a day when Trump and the GOP are no longer in the White House.
Proof of this is found in Pelosi’s latest business trip. She and 14 other congressional Democrats have just traveled to Madrid, Spain, this week to attend the COP25 conference. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the implementation of the Paris climate change agreement.
Now, you may remember that President Donald Trump pulled the United States out of that agreement only a month ago, on November 4. He made it clear that he had wanted to do so for a while, and this was his first real opportunity to complete the goal. The withdrawal of the US will not fully take effect until November 4, 2020, a year after the initial removal and one day after the upcoming presidential election.
So why would Pelosi travel so far to discuss an agreement her nation is no longer involved with? Well, I’ll let her answer that for you.
“By coming here, we want to say to everyone, we’re still in,” she said at a news conference in Madrid. “The United States is still in.”
And she added, “This is a mission, this is a passion, this is a scientifically-based approach, to all. We are here to say to all of you, on behalf of the House of Representatives… We’re still in it.”
Well, at least the Democrats are still in it.
As The Washington Post’s Dino Grandoni said, the “trip is the latest sign that Democrats are preparing for the day Trump is no longer president – when the United States may once again start pushing other nations to cut their climate-warming emissions.”
And in doing so, they will likely reverse the prosperity and high economic growth and the low unemployment rates among all demographics that Donald Trump has allowed to happen.
But that still doesn’t answer why she had to travel so far. If she wanted to let the U.N. know that the US or at least the Dems were still wishing to participate in the agreement, wouldn’t an email have been sufficient? Or, in this day of countless communication technologies, she could have sent a text, made a phone call, or even Skyped it, right?
Ok, well, maybe she is a little old fashioned and believes that face to face is always better. We can’t really fault her for that I guess, but why send 15 people?
According to Breitbart, no less than 13 of her fellow party members from the House of Representatives and one Senator, Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island, made the trip with her to the Spanish capital. Wouldn’t have just her and one or two others have been sufficient?
Instead, she chose to put 14 congress members on carbon gas-emitting airplanes for a one-way flight of 3,781 miles – which was paid for by your taxpayer dollars – all to attend a conference on how to reduce global warming.
Here’s a tip: don’t go. Or better yet admit that it’s all a lie.
After all, if these people actually believed that global warming would end the world as we know it in eight or nine (or is it 11 or 12?) years, why would they risk putting thousands more gallons of harmful CO2 gases known to cause pollution in our atmosphere?
It would seem that the taxpayer money spent on their trip might be better used elsewhere that might actually do some good. And we weren’t the only ones to note this.
One person tweeted, “Seriously was it even necessary for them to go & spend taxpayer $$? They’ve already wasted tremendous amounts.”
But for all her efforts, it looks like this, as well as the great “impeachment inquiry,” is a total waste of time, money, and government resources because America sees right through her schemes and isn’t afraid to call her out on them.
