She’s decided to introduce a resolution that is designed to create a permanent record of racism. If anyone is found to have called the virus the “Wuhan flu” or any variation of “China virus”, Harris wants it on record. That way, the whole world will know who is truly a racist.
Naming conventions should not be the issue at the moment but that is not happening. The impact of the virus itself should be high priority but the Democrats would rather argue over who is a racist or not. It’s one of their favorite games but this time, the future of the nation is at stake.
With so much on the line, it is hard to believe that this is what they are focused on. Mazie Hirono and Tammy Duckworth are also involved in the Harris initiative. They are even worried about the term “Kung Flu” and we do not even know anyone who uses that phrase to describe the virus.
There is something to be said for taking the time to choose your words carefully. Anti Asian rhetoric is not a completely nonexistent issue. However, these are conversations that need to be had with the working class Americans who are responsible for perpetuating it. Is this really such a widespread issue that the Senate needs to pass a resolution?
This whole argument is getting tired, for a number of reasons. For starters, diseases are typically named after the geographical region that they emerge from. Do people think that “Ebola” is a racist name? That disease was named after the river in West Africa where it was originally found and we have yet to hear anyone referred to racist for using that name.
Sens. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), and Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) introduced a resolution last week condemning anti-Asian racism and the use of the terms “Wuhan virus”, “Chinese virus,” or “Kung flu” in referring to the coronavirus or COVID-19.
“Whereas the use of anti-Asian terminology and rhetoric related to COVID–19, such as the ‘’Chinese Virus’’, ‘‘Wuhan Virus’’, and ‘Kung-flu’, have perpetuated anti-Asian stigma,” the resolution stated.
“After Donald Trump repeatedly used his platform to try to racialize this disease, we continue to see a spike in rhetoric and actions against the Asian American community because of misguided fears surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak,” Duckworth said in a statement.
Even Lyme Disease got its name from the location where it was first found. Most people are completely unaware of the fact that it is named after a town in Connecticut known as Old Lyme. It should be obvious where West Nile was found. There are no shortage of examples that come to mind when we start to think about the diseases of the world.
Sometimes, it is okay to move on and talk about something else. Since we know that the virus had originally been found in Wuhan and there is very little evidence to support any other theory, why would people call it anything else? We just wonder if people were sitting around 100 years ago calling each other racist for using the phrase “Spanish Flu”.
People may not refer to the virus in a manner that is politically correct but this is an example of gallows humor. No one needs to be using the phrase “Kung Flu” and we can only hope to regulate that out of polite society on our own. We are going to go out on a huge limb and say that this is probably not an issue that the Senate needs to be taking time out of their day to address.
It’s tone deaf, to say the least. Millions of Americans do not know where their next paycheck is coming from and this is what the Senate wants to waste their time discussing. Someone should take a moment to let the Senate know that there are people out there who are in need of assistance. This isn’t the time for Kamala Harris and her ilk to let everyone know that they are SO not a racist.

Empty virtue signaling like this does nothing to help the people that these folks claim to want to protect. Where are they when Asian Americans are being treated poorly on an everyday basis? Instead, they are on hand to collect their woke points when everyone is looking. These types of “good deeds” probably make them feel good, at least.
The Chinese have pushed out 90,000 tweets since the start of April from 200 diplomatic and state-run media accounts as part of an offensive in the COVID-19 information war, according to data collected by the Hamilton 2.0 dashboard of the Alliance for Securing Democracy, a tool that aggregates accounts connected to the Chinese government.
Bret Schafer, the digital disinformation fellow at the alliance, based in Washington, D.C., has been tracking China’s increasing social media output for months.
According to Schafer’s analysis, Twitter output from China’s official sites has almost doubled since January, and the number of diplomatic Twitter accounts has tripled, to 135, up from just 40 accounts this time last year. Many tweets are in English or Mandarin, but the diplomatic accounts are often in the language of an embassy’s host country.
If they want to call Trump a racist, they are more than free to do so. We just don’t understand why they feel the need to waste everyone else’s time while they are at it. All he did was follow the same naming conventions that have been in place for decades now. The Senate Democrats should stay off social media and spend more time focusing on the issues that matter most.
