A new pistol emerges for CBP this year which is catching the eyes of gun owners and recently has been adopted by the United States Border Patrol and U.S. Customs.
The Glock 47 is the new pistol is 9 X 18 and weighs 26 ounces. Its dimensions are 6.36 inches in length, and the width is 1.16 inches. The barrel length is 3.39 inches, and the capacity is seven rounds. This gun is RMR-ready.
Last week, it was announced a contract was signed between the Border Protection and the U.S. Customs to arm CBP law enforcement.
There is a clause in the contract which also allows DHS law enforcement components the choice to buy the handguns as well.
They have been using the HK P2000s chambered in .40 S&W and have been looking to replace the pistol with a more reliable up to date handgun.
The Glock 47 has a G17L-size slide with a G45 frame and is compatible with the G45 slide. It is also compatible with the G17, G19X, G34, and the G45 magazines.
There is a flared mag-well which allows for magazines to be changed quickly, and it has a match-grade Glock Marksman Barrel to enhance accuracy along with the Ameriglo BOLD sights.
The CBP press release stated, “U.S. Customs and Border Protection awarded a contract to Glock Inc. today to provide CBP law enforcement personnel the next generation standard duty handgun.
The contract is for up to $85 million over 10 years, which includes other DHS law enforcement components that have the option to purchase duty handguns through the contract.
CBP’s Law Enforcement Safety and Compliance Directorate led the extensive solicitation process to replace CBP’s current duty handgun.”
Deputy Commissioner Robert E. Perez stated, “This contract provides CBP law enforcement personnel the latest in handgun technology and represents our commitment to providing the highest quality use-of-force tools and equipment to our law enforcement personnel who defend America’s front line every day.”
With the ongoing threat at the border, CBP Law Enforcers need the best weapons available to protect themselves.
The issue lies with illegal immigration, drugs entering the United States at an alarming rate, and illegal guns which are sold to criminals and gang members to do our citizens harm.
There have been sex traffickers and rapist who enter the States illegally, and we are not going to fight these people off with rocks and slingshots.
We need the best state of the art artillery, and with this new contract, our faithful patrolmen will finally get the protection they deserve.
Some people see this as a joke. This is very serious.
It is no different than a homeowner standing their ground to protect their property or loved ones with the best handgun they can afford to buy.
These patrolmen put their lives on the line every day to protect our country and its citizens. The only option we have is with lethal force when they feel their lives are threatened.
The Glock 47 has been tested by the National Institute of Justice Laboratories. Over 16,000 CBP and law enforcement agencies have given their inputs and field evaluations.
This is the highest rated handgun and chosen by the patrolmen who will be carrying this gun daily.
All of our law enforcement across the country are currently using .40 to 9mm pistols, and it is expected to be in the hands of every law enforcement agency by the end of 2021.
Along with the G47, there were two other guns out of the MOS Gen5 Glocks which were purchased through the contract, all of them in 9mm.
The other two models are the G19 and the G26. The handgun of choice will be the G47 but the option will at the patrolman’s preference. There are confirmed 20,000 CBP agents who will be carrying Glocks.
This will make it the second largest agency under the New York Police Department to own the guns.
The Glock 47 is the fifth generation of the Glock Gen 5 models. The Glock Gen 5 models started its line with the Glock 17 and the Glock 19.
I am sure many of the gun lovers out there are drooling at this point. I am only the messenger, so please do not shoot the messenger! The Glock 47 is only available to the CBP law enforcement at this time.
It is likely they will release it to the public at a later date.
